Once a fishing village and now Morocco’s surfing capital, Taghazout has been attracting enthusiasts from around the world for decades. Nestled between arid hills and the Atlantic Ocean, the bay offers a string of beaches and spots renowned for their consistent waves. It is in this unique setting that group lessons take place, designed to help you learn or improve your skills in a relaxed, international atmosphere.
The session begins with the group gathering on the beach, followed by a briefing on the spot. The instructors explain how to spot the sets, understand the currents, and choose the right area to surf. Taghazout offers a variety of waves: some gentle and rolling for beginners, others more structured to allow intermediate surfers to work on their lines.
After a light warm-up, it’s time for the basics: positioning on the board, efficient paddling, timing the stand-up, and those first glides through the whitewater. Each participant progresses at their own pace, encouraged by the group dynamic. The instructors alternate between demonstrations on the sand and hands-on guidance in the water, correcting form and offering personalized advice.
The group lesson in Taghazout is also a social experience. We share our successes, watch experienced surfers at nearby point breaks, and chat with travelers from all over the world. Once the session is over, many extend their morning with a smoothie bowl, a tagine overlooking the sea, or a stroll through the village’s narrow streets, lined with surf shops and cafes offering panoramic views.
