North of Agadir, Anza is a working-class neighborhood facing the Atlantic, known for its harbor, local cafés, and wide, open beach. Less touristy than Taghazout or Tamraght, the spot offers a more raw and authentic experience, ideal for learning to surf while immersing yourself in everyday Moroccan life.
The group lesson takes place on a long sandy beach, which is particularly reassuring for beginners. The waves roll in wide and spaced out, allowing participants to work on the basics without the constraints of rocks. Depending on conditions, certain sections also offer great opportunities for intermediate surfers to improve their positioning and fluidity.
The session begins with a group meeting and a briefing on the spot. The instructors explain how to spot the sets, understand the currents, and enter the water safely. After a light warm-up, it’s time for the fundamentals: paddling, balance, body positioning, and timing the stand-up.
Group lessons encourage mutual support and motivation. Beginners experience their first sensations of riding the waves in the whitewater, while more experienced participants are guided toward slightly cleaner waves. Instructors stay close by, offering personalized advice and adapting the exercises to each person’s pace.
After the session, Anza invites you to extend the experience in a local setting. You can settle into a café facing the ocean, watch the fishermen return to port, or head quickly into downtown Agadir to continue the day with a stroll along the waterfront and a visit to the markets.
