About 90 minutes north of Agadir, Imsouane is a small fishing village that has become legendary in the surfing world. Nestled between cliffs and the ocean, it is famous for its sheltered bay and exceptionally long waves, ideal for learning at a gentle pace or perfecting your technique.
Beginner lessons take place in the main bay, where the waves roll in slowly over a sandy bottom. This spot is particularly popular with beginners because it allows them to stay on the board for a long time, work on their balance, and understand the dynamics of the wave without stress. Intermediate surfers, meanwhile, take advantage of extended rides to improve their lines and posture.
The session begins with a look at the spot from the cliff or the beach. The instructors explain how to spot the sets, choose a wave, and position yourself correctly in the water. After a light warm-up, it’s time for the basics: paddling, body positioning, timing the takeoff, and your first glides through the whitewater, before gradually venturing out onto the green waves.
In Imsouane, surfing is inseparable from the scenery. Between sessions in the water, you watch the blue boats returning to port, smell the aroma of grilled fish wafting through the air, and enjoy a rare silence, broken only by the surf. After the session, many extend the experience with lunch overlooking the bay or a stroll to the small harbor, where local life blends naturally with that of surfers from around the world.
This introductory session is as much a sporting activity as it is an immersion in an authentic coastal village, set to the rhythm of the ocean.
