Taghazout is a small fishing village that has, over the years, become one of Morocco’s most famous surfing spots. Nestled along the Atlantic coast, about thirty minutes north of Agadir, it charms visitors with its bohemian atmosphere, oceanfront cafés, and open beaches swept by a steady swell.
The introductory surfing lessons take place right on Taghazout Beach or in the immediate vicinity, depending on the conditions that day. The setting here is authentic: colorful boats, white houses overlooking the bay, and surfers scanning the horizon from sunrise. For beginners, the sandy areas offer gentle waves, perfect for learning the basics without any pressure.
The activity begins with a welcome on the beach and the distribution of equipment. After a safety briefing, the instructors explain the basics: stance on the board, balance, reading the waves, and first take-offs in the whitewater. Everyone progresses at their own pace, guided by passionate local instructors who are accustomed to working with both complete beginners and intermediate surfers looking to refine their skills.
Very quickly, you’ll experience your first glides, bursts of laughter after a fall, and then the satisfaction of successfully standing up on a wave. Between sessions in the water, a break allows you to take in the ocean, chat with the group, or simply soak up the sun.
After the session, Taghazout invites you to extend the experience: enjoy lunch by the sea, stroll through the village’s narrow streets, or relax on the beach. The atmosphere is friendly and international, punctuated by the comings and goings of surfers and the sound of the waves. A beginner’s surfing lesson here is as much a sporting activity as it is an immersion in a way of life centered around the ocean.
